The following rafting and camping outfitters were chosen by National Geographic Adventure as being some of the best adventure travel outfitters on earth. We have organized them by length of trips offered so, no matter how long you plan on "getting away" for, chances are you'll find a match below. Also, the outfitters below operate in three different western states (Idaho, Oregon, and California), making it easy to find a quality outfitter within a days drive. They might be on different rivers and based in different states, but they do share a few things in common: All three run world-famous rivers, all three have been recognized for superior customer service and incredible trips, and all three run true, authentic, wilderness river rafting and camping expeditions. If you were looking for the real deal, you've found it.

Kern River Outfitters runs the Lower, Upper, and Forks of the Kern River in Southern California. Their trips range in length from 1/2 blitzes on the Upper Kern to three-day expeditions on the Forks of the Kern. Their most popular trip during the summer is the two-day Lower Kern.
Our Recommendation?
The Forks of the Kern is the BEST wilderness class V run in the country. Countless rapids, spectacular scenery (when you're not focused on paddling), and great camping sites. |

Rogue River Journeys runs the Wild and Scenic Rogue River in Southern Oregon. Their trips range in length from three days to four days and include a mix of wilderness camping and back-country lodges. Their most popular trip is the four-day camp/lodge in July.
Our Recommendation?
In 2009 they are doing a specialty "Rogue River Pub & Grub" featuring Full Sail Brewing and two nights at the best lodges on the river. |

Our Recommendation?
Set two weeks aside and do the incredible 12-day trip through the heart of America's Frank Church Wilderness Area. |
